Ambleside


Ambleside is a small town at the head of Lake Windermere. The lake cruises regularly run from Bowness to Ambleside offering fine views of the lake and surrounding mountains. There are plenty of shops, cafes and pubs. Also a short walk from the centre of the town is Stock Ghyll Force a spectacular 70 foot waterfall which can be viewed safely from a railed viewpoint


Hill Top


Beatrix Potter’s 17th century farm house is situated in Near Sawrey on the other side of Lake Windermere. To visit the home of the famous children’s writer you cross the lake on a regular ferry service either on foot or with your car and Hill Top is a short distance away

World of Beatrix Potter - Bowness-on-Windermere


The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction can be found in Windermere. The attraction as won a number of awards and is One of the Top Ten most Popular Visitor Centres and the centre is a place for all the family young and old. Within the centre you will discover Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle Duck and all their friends in a magical indoor recreation of Beatrix Potter classic tales, with the sights, sounds and also the smells of the countryside. You will be able to see Mrs. Tiggy-winkle in the Kitchen, go past Jeremy Fisher's Pond and even walk through Squirrel Nutkin's Old Oak Tree? Also at the centre you will be able to learn more about Beatrix Potter's life in the Hidden Beatrix Potter's presentation and video wall. Take a break in the Tailor of Gloucester Tea Rooms and then a visit to shop where you can browse and purchase top quality Beatrix Potter merchandise.

Grasmere


Nestling at the foot of some spectacular fells and with its own lake, this village has many shops, pubs and cafes. You can also visit Wordsworth's grave in the churchyard and buy the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread.


Hawkshead Village


Hawkshead is described as the most picturesque village in the Lake District with its individual shops and cafes as well as some of Beatrix Potter’s original sketches in the gallery

Coniston


Coniston Water is about five miles long and half a mile wide. Above its western shore, the mountain of the Old Man of Coniston towers above the lake and the village

The lake is about half a mile from the village where you can hire boats and bikes from the Boating Centre.

Lake cruises are also available on Coniston one of which stops at Brantwood the home of John Ruskin which is open to visitors with its beautiful gardens and views.

The Ruskins Museum in the village features and exhibition about Sir Donald Campbell who was killed in 1967 attempting to break the world speed record in his boat Bluebird


Keswick


Keswick is the biggest town in the Lake District. Visiting Keswick from Windermere is simple either 40 mins in the car or by bus. The North Lakes are well known for their scenic landscape. With lots of shops cafes and cruises on Derwent Water, Keswick has a lot to offer the Lake District visitor
